The New Jumbo Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Is Here

If Reese’s keeps increasing the size of its peanut butter cups, it’ll run out of adjectives to describe their enormity. The brand has announced the debut of the Jumbo Cup, a candy so large that it’s equivalent to an entire king-sized four-pack of regular peanut butter cups. What could possibly be next? The Colossal Cup?

Here’s how the Jumbo Cup fits into Reese’s current portfolio: A classic Reese’s cup is 0.75 ounces The Big Cup, which debuted in the early 2000s, is about twice as big, at 1.4 ounces per cup. The popular seasonal shapes, such as the Eggs at Easter, the Pumpkins at Halloween, or this summer’s Olympics-themed Reese’s Medals, split the difference between regular and Big Cups, at 1.2 ounces apiece. While the individual weight of a single Reese’s Thin is not advertised, some back-of-the-napkin math based on suggested serving sizes within the bulk bags tells me that each Reese’s Thin cup is approximately 0.41 ounces.

But the Jumbo Cup? That weighs in at 2.8 ounces., as much as two Big Cups — or four classic cups.

“We’ve seen the passion that fans have for the brand, and we’re excited to bring a new, larger cup for them to continue enjoying the chocolate and peanut butter goodness that only Reese’s peanut butter cups can provide,” senior brand manager Melissa Blette said in a press release.

It appears as though Reese’s has taken a page out of the Oreo playbook. The iconic sandwich cookie has come in a “Double Stuf” format since the mid-’70s, featuring roughly twice as much creme filling than the original. Next came Mega Stuf, which increased the filling further. The brand reined it in a bit with the introduction of the newly slimmed-down Oreo Thins in 2015 — then bombastically released The Most Stuf, a package of cookies furnished with an almost physics-defying amount of creme. In the snack industry, more is always more.

Of course, the Jumbo Cup technically isn’t the biggest cup that Reese’s has ever produced. For Thanksgiving 2021, the brand released a massive pie-sized peanut butter cup measuring 9 inches across and weighing 3.4 pounds, designed to feed a crowd. But the Thanksgiving pie was mostly a marketing stunt, as only 3,000 were sold via the Hershey website. The new Jumbo Cup, while available for a limited time only, will at least be available at retailers nationwide.

If Reese’s cups get any bigger, we’ll have to start recruiting friends to help us take them down, like one of those comically large cookies at Crumbl.
