This boozy sparkling beverage is like no other.
Spritz Society’s Pickle spritzer is back for the season, following a long-anticipated wait since the product sold out in less than three days last summer.
Pickle enthusiasts will also be relieved to learn that the soon-to-relaunch Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen will now be offered in a bigger can, 12 ounces of sparkling fermented deliciousness, the largest size offered by Spritz Society to date.
In 2023, Claussen debuted the first-of-its-kind pickle-flavored sparkling wine cocktail, a partnership with canned wine cocktail company Spritz Society, envisioned as an April Fools’ prank. Of course, today’s imbibers are delightfully unserious, and the sweet-salty beverage became a hit.
The drink is tangy and zippy, refreshing to sip alongside a summer barbecue or fresh out of the cooler while sunbathing. At 6% ABV, it’s equivalent to a beer or spiked seltzer, and if you’re feeling snacky, you can pair it with a pickle spear.
Spritz Society is owned by mega influencer couple Ben Soffer and Claudia Oshry, along with Oshry’s sister Claudia. The drinks are packaged in aesthetic, social media-friendly cans that you may recognize from your friends’ (or enemies’) feeds. Because of the high-profile ownership, Spritz Society is often a Reddit topic for those eager to pile on the snark and gossip.
Starting May 1st, the Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen will be available exclusively online (no stores are stocking pickle spritzes in their fridge) for $25 for a four-pack. Each 12-ounce can is gluten-free, with 5 grams of sugar, and just seven ingredients.
“After getting into the beverage space for the first time last summer we were so excited to see the response from fans around the Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen,” said Caroline Sheehey, brand manager for Claussen. “To continue to answer the call of pickle enthusiasts everywhere, we are partnering with Spritz Society to bring back the delicious sparkling wine cocktail, this time in a bigger can. Perfect as the weather gets warmer and summer is just around the corner.”
This boozy pickle beverage is far from the only pickle concoction in the specialty canned drinks department, a category spurred by April Fool’s Day. Earlier in April, 7-Eleven debuted a Big Bite Hot Dog sparkling water, a prank with a really bad aftertaste. Yes, the drink was real, and no, it’s not still available, but who knows if it will also make a grand reprise. In 2023, Grillo’s Pickles teamed up with Two Robbers to offer a hard seltzer flavor highlighting the pickles’ vinegar, garlic, and sea salt flavors. The $12 6-pack can still be found at some retailers, and taste testers enjoy the dill aftertaste.
Chasing a whiskey shot with pickle brine, a pickleback, is a classic dive bar combo, so why not infuse some pickle juice into summer’s next ready-to-drink spritz?
