Do you celebrate Lunar New Year? The holiday honors the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year according to the lunisolar calendar. Also known as Chinese New Year, it’s the most important holiday in China, and it’s also celebrated in countries such as South Korea and Vietnam, as well as countries with a significant Chinese population, including here in the United States. And, like most holidays, food is a big part of the festivities.
This week, the home goods Aldi’s Finds aisle is the place to go if you’re looking for tableware to serve up Lunar New Year dishes such as lion’s head soup. The Aldi bowls are gorgeous and so similar in style to Pottery Barn’s Lunar New Year Noodle Bowls that you might be able to pass them off as something you got at a much more expensive store.
Aldi’s $5 Crofton Ceramic Noodle Bowl
Starting Jan. 22—just a week before Lunar New Year begins on Jan. 29—Aldi is offering ceramic noodle bowls for $4.99 in three beautiful designs: textured white, green floral print, or leafy blue pattern. The 21-ounce bowls feature integrated chopstick holders on the top of the bowls, in addition to a pair of chopsticks. Compare that to the slightly larger Pottery Barn bowls, which are four for $69.50, and that’s a savings of over $12 a bowl. With that good of a deal, we’re totally happy with the slightly smaller Aldi bowls and going back for seconds if need be.
Of course, you don’t have to use the chopsticks that come with the bowls if you don’t want to. And these bowls don’t have to be used just for Lunar New Year. You can use them whenever you’re craving a bowl of hot ramen—or any kind of soup. You can also use them to hold your breakfast oatmeal or a few scoops of Blue Bell’s Tin Roof Ice Cream as you binge-watch your favorite show. We’re all about versatility with our kitchen items here at Allrecipes!
As with most items in the Aldi Finds aisle, the Crofton Ceramic Noodle Bowls will be on sale for one week, or until sold out, so don’t wait until the last minute to grab these.
