GravityLux Mattress Review 2024: Testing Otherworldly Comfort From a Reputable Brand

We look at plenty of mattress brands, but WinkBeds is one of our favorite online brands to review. The company makes all of its beds right here in the US. The more popular option from the brand is the Winkbed, which is the brand’s main mattress offering and a common find on many of our best lists. However, a lesser-known option from WinkBeds is the GravityLux.

The GravityLux is a more premium memory foam mattress offering from the brand. It’s an all-foam luxury bed designed to provide a body-conforming quality. In this review, I’ll cover what I like about this mattress and who I think it’s best for, and whether you should buy it.

First impressions of the WinkBeds GravityLux

This bed ships completely free with standard bed-in-a-box shipping, where the mattress arrives at your door in a box. The unboxing process is quick and easy to complete. Once it’s out of the box, you may want to give the bed some time to off-gas and fully inflate. Since it’s a memory foam bed that’s been compressed for a while, it may look a bit sad right out of the box — this is totally normal.

After we let our GravityLux mattress expand overnight, it was ready to be tested in the morning. Upon testing responsiveness, I immediately noticed that it had a memory foam feel of the more responsive variety. The bed’s quilted cover looked and felt fluffy, and when I hopped onto the mattress itself, I thought it felt like a nice, pressure-relieving cloud.

What does the WinkBeds GravityLux feel like?

This bed definitely has a memory foam feel, but it’s not as cut and dry as your classic Tempur-Pedic mattress. Compared with that style of bed, the GravityLux has more of a light and airy memory foam feel. 

The bed’s top layer of memory foam is designed to be more open-cell than a viscous gel memory foam, and the breathable quilted cover also adds to the bed’s response time. If you’re a fan of memory foam, you’ll definitely dig this bed, but I think it should also appeal to those who aren’t the biggest fans of memory foam to begin with.

How firm is the WinkBeds GravityLux mattress?

This mattress is available in several different firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm models. I’ve primarily tested the Medium version and would say it’s right around a medium, give or take. This firmness works for all sleeper types, providing enough pressure relief for side and combination sleepers and ample support for back and stomach sleepers.

Being the softest option, the Soft model will likely be most suitable for strict side sleepers, while the Firm rendition is more supportive for diehard back and stomach sleepers looking for a super firm bed. I’d also recommend the Medium version to most couples since it splits the difference firmness-wise.

Since this is a premium memory foam bed with a relatively simple construction. It’s 11 inches thick and comprised of just three foam layers:

1. On the bottom, you’ve got a dense support foam to serve as the bed’s foundation.

2. Then, you’ve got a layer of what the brand dubs “progression foam.” It’s basically a responsive transition foam that’s laid out in a Zoned-Support design to help keep your back more aligned at night.

3. Sitting on top beneath the quilted cover, you’ve got a breathable, open-cell memory foam that acts as the bed’s main comfort layer.

4. Rounding everything out is a quilted cover with some gel-infused foams for additional comfort. The cover is made of a Tencel material and eucalyptus fiber to help with sleeping temperature.

Motion isolation

We’d say this bed deadens and absorbs cross-mattress movement quite well. Since memory foam beds usually perform the best in this category for couples, it’s easy to see why it does great in this regard. It might not be as motion-deadening as something with a denser memory foam feel, but it still gets the job done — good news for light sleepers.

Edge-to-edge support

For an all-foam mattress, the GravityLux also has some sturdy edges. When you apply your entire body weight to the perimeter of this mattress, there’s no apparent roll-off sensation, and the mattress doesn’t really sag excessively. Instead, you should feel firmly placed along those edges at night — I doubt anyone will be falling off this bed. 

Temperature

While the quilted cover is designed to be ultra-breathable, I don’t think it moves the needle enough to make this an active cooling mattress. We’d classify this bed to sleep predominantly temperature-neutral. This bed is necessarily going to cool you down at night, but it also won’t excessively warm up on you throughout the night either — leave that to your sheets and down comforter.

Durability

Though hybrid beds are usually more durable than all-foam mattresses, since the GravityLux has a more premium construction, it should be plenty supportive for all body types. Granted, it’s ideal for supporting average to petite-size people, but I think if you’re a bit heavier, you can definitely still get by on this bed with no problem.

Who is the GravityLux mattress best for?

Though this is a quality memory foam option that could work for just about any sleeper, there is a certain demographic it’s going to appeal to the most. Here’s who we think will love the GravityLux.

Sleeping position

Given it’s available in a few firmness options, the GravityLux could work for just about any sleeping preference. Side sleepers might prefer the level of pressure relief found in the Soft option, while back and stomach sleepers who want a firmer sleeping surface will gravitate toward the Firm. If you’re a combination sleeper or you sleep with a partner, the Medium might be your best bet — it’s pretty much the best of both worlds. 

Body type

This all-foam mattress will be ideal for supporting two average-size people at once. If you’re both on the bigger side, I’d recommend checking out a hybrid bed instead. For singles, you can get by on the GravityLux if you’re a bit heavier, but just know you’ll likely get more long-term durability out of a bed with coils on the bottom for support. 

If you’re interested in checking out a hybrid bed that’s suitable for heavier people, you don’t have to look far. I’d consider the classic WinkBed instead — it’s even the exact same price for a queen size, how fitting.

WinkBeds GravityLux mattress pricing

On the topic of pricing for the GravityLux, I’d say it’s not half bad considering the quality. Of course, there are much more affordable memory foam options online that you can go for if you’re on a tight budget, but if you’ve got the money to spend on something a bit more premium, this is a great memory foam bed to consider. 

Especially when compared to the pricing of Tempur-Pedic beds nowadays, I’d say you’re getting a nice bang for your buck here. Keep in mind that this pricing is before you apply a discount, which the brand definitely offers for this mattress.

Trial, shipping and warranty

WinkBeds backs this bed with some generous policies. Its beds ship to you in a box for free, and once it’s in your possession, you get a 120-night trial period to try it at home risk-free. If you happen not to like it within that time frame, you can return it for free. On the other hand, if you decide to keep it, you’re backed by a lifetime warranty. Just be sure to use the right foundation for the bed. Otherwise, you could void your bed’s warranty.

How does WinkBeds GravityLux compare to other mattresses? 

GravityLux vs. WinkBed

When it comes to comparing the flagship WinkBed to the GravityLux, there are several things to cover. Both are available in three firmness options, so each bed could work for just about any sleeper type. However, they have completely different constructions. The WinkBed is a hybrid mattress that has a pillow top feel, while the GravityLux has an airy memory foam feel and an all-foam design. As I mentioned, though, they’re both available in a queen size for the same price.

GravityLux vs. EcoCloud Hybrid

This comparison is easier to make, considering the beds are so different. The EcoCloud is a hybrid mattress that has latex foam for comfort. The GravityLux is an all-foam bed that has memory foam for comfort. While the GravityLux comes in a few firmness options, the EcoCloud is available only in one firmness profile, which is about a medium. Considering that the EcoCloud has more natural and organic materials in its construction, it’s also the most expensive WinkBed.

The final verdict

To be quite honest, memory foam beds have never been my jam, but I think this one makes an exception for me comfort-wise. It’s got a comfy, airy memory foam feel that I think works for a variety of preferences. I like the bed’s Zoned-Support feature and the fact you can get the bed in a few different firmness profiles. Also, for the quality of the mattress you’re getting here, I think it’s reasonably priced.
