Nespresso Users Can Save Money With This Reusable Tool

Estimated read time 3 min read

I’ve had my Nespresso machine for almost two years, and I loyally use it every day. (I actually got rid of my other coffee maker because I stopped wanting to use it.) While my Nespresso Vertuo Plus has so many pros — it’s fast, easy to use, and requires very little maintenance — the one con is the ongoing price of pods. That’s why I went on the hunt for a reusable alternative and luckily stumbled upon the Capmesso Coffee Capsule.

This stainless steel capsule is the same shape as a Nespresso Vertuo pod but can be refilled with your coffee grounds of choice. With a one-time purchase of $24 (now on sale for $22 thanks to an on-site coupon), you’ll never have to buy a Nespresso pod again, making the Capmesso not only more affordable but less wasteful in the long term. If you’re a big Nespresso fan like me, then this money-saving gadget is worth adding to your coffee routine or gifting to a fellow coffee lover.

The Capmesso pod comes in two sizes: a 2.5-ounce double espresso and an 8-ounce coffee pod. I have the smaller size, and it saves me about $35 — or three sleeves of double espresso pods — per month. Subtract the cost of my monthly beans, which is about $10, and I’m left with the $25, meaning the capsule can pay for itself in just one month of use.

Using the pod is surprisingly easy. All you have to do is twist off the top, fill the bottom with your grounds (pre-ground or fresh grounds work), and place it in your machine like a normal pod for the perfect brew. The capsule is really easy to clean, especially if you don’t let it sit overnight in your machine; just keep in mind that it will be hot right after brewing. While the stainless steel is durable, I would opt for hand-washing it to avoid scratching the barcode on the underside of the pod’s rim. (This is what tells the Nespresso machine the right temperature and amount of water to use.)

Unfortunately, this reusable pod is not compatible with the Nespresso Vertuo Pop or Vertuo Next lines, but Capmesso does sell a 100-pack of foil lids that allow you to reuse your Nespresso pods for those models.

Although I do find myself struggling to resist Nespresso’s buzzy limited edition pods, the Capmesso Capsule allows me to experiment with different coffee brands and has the potential to save me $300 per year — that’s $120 less than if I purchased a new pack of Nespresso pods each month. Whether you’re trying to save money by brewing coffee at home or just want to make the most of your Nespresso, this money-saving tool is definitely worth the investment.
