Chip flavors have come a long way. Decades ago, most brands only offered plain and maybe BBQ. These days, new, creative chip flavors are released at seemingly lightning speed. 7-Eleven just released hot dog-flavored chips. Lay’s just revived five previously released varieties including Fried Green Tomatoes and Crispy Taco.
But does anyone do chip flavors like Trader Joe’s? The chain’s Carolina Gold BBQ chips were once called “the greatest achievement of human culture in the 21st century.” Fans like to throw several bags of Pizza Party chips in their shopping cart. And when the super popular Patio chips (a zesty mix of Sea Salt & Vinegar, Delicious Dill, Homestyle Ketchup, and Smokin’ Sweet BBQ) were discontinued, we all collectively mourned its loss.
With fall in full swing, my all-time favorite chips from Trader Joe’s are back on shelves.
Trader Joe’s Horseradish and Chives Potato Chips
According to the Instagram account @trader_joes_treasure_hunt, “the best chips are back at Trader Joe’s!!” That’s right, Trader Joe’s Ridge Cut Potato Chips Seasoned With Horseradish and Chives are back.
“These chips are top tier,” one commenter wrote. Another chimed in, “Let’s make these year-round” and I couldn’t agree more. Once these were spotted, I had to make a run for my local TJ’s.
Last year, I discovered the chips went well with a dry red wine, specifically Texas’ Pedernales Cellars Vahalla red blend. I was so thrilled with how the potato chips and wine pairing worked that I told my Instagram followers to just trust me about how good they were together.
This year, I learned that the Horseradish and Chives chips make an excellent accompaniment to something else, too: my go-to fall recipe, slow-cooker French dip sandwiches. Beef and horseradish are a classic combination, so it’s not surprising how amazing these taste together. I had the sandwich and chips combo earlier this week, and I think I’ll be having the leftovers of both later tonight. Probably with red wine.
