The Walmart-Exclusive Mac and Cheese That Sold Out in Minutes Online Is Finally Back

Estimated read time 3 min read

As a former theater kid, I haven’t been excited about a movie musical adaptation since 2021’s “West Side Story.” So, you can imagine the pure joy I had when I saw the news that the Broadway classic “Wicked” was finally being turned into a movie by Universal Pictures.

And it seems like I’m not the only one who’s ecstatic about this once-in-a-lifetime movie experience. Remember the “Barbie” phenomenon during the summer of 2023 when any and every brand was releasing a pink-themed collaboration? Well, meet the “Wicked” phenomenon. So far, we’ve seen color-changing baking mixes, Starbucks drinks, and a Stanley tumbler collaboration that sold out in mere minutes—and now, Walmart is jumping on the “Wicked” train.

Walmart Introduces Great Value “Wicked” Color-Changing Mac and Cheese

Similar to Betty Crocker’s color-changing baking mixes, Walmart and its private label brand, Great Value, has teamed up with “Wicked” to release color-changing mac and cheese. You won’t know if your Mystery Color Macaroni and Cheese will turn pink or green when you pick it off the shelf. With just some hot water, the cheesy noodles will change color as you mix in the “magical” sauce packet, revealing if you’re going to be “Popular” or “Defying Gravity.”

The colors give a nod to the iconic main characters of the musical—green for Elphaba and pink for Glinda. No matter what color you get, watching the noodles take on the colorful cheese is fun for any “Wicked” fan—and, of course, it will taste delicious.

And, don’t worry, the colors don’t change the flavor of the classic mac and cheese either. There are no artificial colors added in to get those pink and green hues. According to the Walmart website, “the green mac & cheese is made from natural vegetable juice and spices” and “the pink mac & cheese is made from natural vegetable juice.”

The mac and cheese is available online and at Walmart stores nationwide for just $1. When the “Wicked”-themed mac and cheese was first announced last week, it quickly sold out online. However, it looks like it’s back in stock for shipping. As far as in-stores, you’ll want to check your local Walmart location to see if it’s in stock. Even though “Wicked” part one hits theaters in November, we already know we want this color-changing mac and cheese to stay on Walmart shelves for good.
