DiGiorno’s Thanksgiving Pizza Is Making a Comeback This Season

Estimated read time 3 min read

DiGiorno has been selling frozen pizzas that aim for restaurant quality for more than 30 years, and the brand name is synonymous with home-baked pies. But the company is swiftly becoming just as well-known for its best seasonal stunt, as the DiGiorno Thanksgiving Pizza is making its triumphant return after debuting last year to much fanfare.

In 2023, DiGiorno’s Thanksgiving Pizza made headlines for its eclectic combination of all the traditional Turkey Day elements piled atop one frozen pizza: roasted turkey, gravy, cranberries, green beans, sweet potatoes, crispy onions, and both mozzarella and cheddar cheese on a Detroit-style crust. The idea is to make those Thanksgiving foods more easily accessible and not to relegate them to one day out of the year.

“Our passion is pizza, and we are always looking for unique ways to infuse the fresh-baked taste of DiGiorno into moments of celebration — even the most traditional holiday dinners,” said senior brand manager Kimberly Holowiak in the press release. Maybe since its initial rollout, this pizza has become a traditional holiday dinner for those who tasted it in 2023. Indeed, DiGiorno is now calling it a “fan-favorite pizza” in the announcement of this year’s re-release, having run out of online inventory last year.

The Thanksgiving Pizza will be available starting this month exclusively at Kroger-owned stores, with a suggested retail price of $9.99 (though prices will vary by location). DiGiorno is not the only brand to release a stunt-tacular Thanksgiving product, but this pizza probably tastes a whole lot better than, say, Brach’s Turkey Dinner Candy Corn or Jones Turkey & Gravy Soda.

To be fair, some recent limited-edition Thanksgiving products have knocked it out of the park, too. Since Thanksgiving is a holiday that pretty much revolves around food, it inspires brands to get creative, and there have been plenty of successful variations on the theme.

Perdue ThanksNuggets feature turkey breast meat and a seasoned sweet potato breading shaped like little turkeys and drumsticks — a clever interpretation of holiday flavors. And just last year, Baskin-Robbins’ Thanksgiving-centric desserts included Turkey Day Fixin’s, an ice cream with sweet potatoes, cornbread, and cranberry sauce blended into the mix. According to the release, this was Baskin-Robbins “push[ing] the boundaries of flavor innovation.”

But Thanksgiving Pizza, more than any of these products, takes a quintessentially American food and layers on some of our best culinary traditions. According to this year’s Butterball Togetherness Report (yes, it’s a real thing), 98% of consumers are anticipating that their holiday plans will be impacted by inflation; by contrast, only 79% were concerned in 2023. Maybe right now, with groceries straining everyone’s budget, Thanksgiving Pizza sounds like an economical way to celebrate.
