It’s been seven years since Paddington 2 charmed audiences and briefly held a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But now it’s time for Paddington to come home in the latest trailer for Paddington in Peru. However, Paddington’s plans for a simple family reunion with his aunt Lucy quickly turn into a quest with his human family, the Browns.
Despite being well-aware that Paddington and the Browns were on their way for a visit, Aunt Lucy has abandoned her retirement home for bears. And the only two humans with any clue about Lucy’s whereabouts don’t seem very trustworthy. Hunter Cabot (Antonio Banderas) presents himself as friend and guide for the Brown family, and he’s the one who tells them that the search for Lucy may bring them to El Dorado, the fabled lost city of gold. Yet Hunter is clearly seen menacing Paddington late in the trailer, which suggests an inevitable betrayal on his part.
Meanwhile, the Reverend Mother–as played by Oscar-winner Olivia Colman–may have her own agenda as well. She’s shown to have a suspicious amount of high-tech tracking equipment for a simple nun, and she won’t be left behind either. As for why there are so many dancing nuns in the trailer, we’re not ready to share a theory about that yet.
Ben Whishaw is reprising his voice role as Paddington Brown, with Imelda Staunton as the voice of Aunt Lucy. Hugh Bonneville also stars in the film as Henry Brown alongside The Mandalorian’s Emily Mortimer as Mary Brown, Madeleine Harris as Judy Brown, Samuel Joslin as Jonathan Brown, and Jim Broadbent as Samuel Gruber.
Paddington in Peru will be in theaters in the United Kingdom on November 8. But fans in America will have to wait until January 17, 2025.
