Watch What We Do in the Shadows’ Hilarious Season 6 Trailer

Parting is such sweet sorrow, but saying farewell to What We Do in the Shadows—which is very sadly ending after its upcoming sixth season—will be made easier by what looks to be an outrageously funny last hurrah. A new trailer arrived today and it does not disappoint:

Guillermo (Harvey Guillén) has a new home after last season’s big decision to remain human—his vampiric transformation was shaping up to be a rough one, after all—but it doesn’t look like he’s strayed too far from the roommates. Speaking of, we’ll meet energetic new roommate Jerry, who’s not really a new roommate, but a member of the household everyone forgot about and allowed to remain in vampiric slumber for decades. Another sleep-related plot will see Nandor hypnotized into believing he’s Richard Nixon. Elsewhere, Nadja and her doll continue to pass judgment on everyone, Colin Robinson grows fat off all the negative energy flying around—and delightfully, it seems there will be no end to Laszlo’s array of X-rated inventions and scientific ambitions. Dr. Frankenstein? Never heard of him!

At San Diego Comic-Con, What We Do in the Shadows producer and director Kyle Newacheck teased that season six will also reveal a bit more about the show’s most mysterious characters: the documentary crew that’s been following the vampires (and Guillermo) around all this time. “There’s definitely a dynamic [between the vampires and the film crew] that does get opened [up more] towards the later end of the season in a very meta way that was fun to make,” Newacheck explained at Shadows‘ SDCC panel.

“It’s a question we always asked ourselves: what does the documentary [crew] know? How much do we know about them, and whatnot?,” he said. “I will say that that I did get to play a director on the show at a certain point while I was directing the show, which was the most meta thing I’ve ever been a part of. And it was it was an absolute blast.”

Here’s the full synopsis of season six: “After a very brief stint as a full-blown vampire, Guillermo is re-evaluating his life. Who is he if not a familiar who will do anything to please his Master in hopes of one day being turned into a vampire? Meanwhile, the vampires are re-evaluating, too. When their former roommate reappears after a 50-year nap, they realize how little they’ve done in half a century—not one goal accomplished, not one dream pursued, not one part of the New World conquered (except for their street and part of Ashley Street).

In the sixth and final season of the Emmy-nominated comedy, Nandor, Nadja, Laszlo, Colin and Guillermo will enter the workforce, visit New Hampshire, go to a human dinner party, fête the Baron and conjure a demon—all while trying to find their place and their purpose in this crazy, mixed-up world.”

What We Do in the Shadows stars Kayvan Novak (Nandor), Matt Berry (Laszlo), Natasia Demetriou (Nadja), Mark Proksch (Colin Robinson), Harvey Guillén (Guillermo), and Kristen Schaal (the Guide). Season six arrives October 21 on FX and Hulu.
