With Prime Big Deal Days around the corner, we’re bound to see some great deals on Lego sets throughout the next week. In fact, one of the most popular Lego deals from Walmart’s big July sale and Amazon Prime Day has returned as an early deal. The Lego Super Mario Piranha Plant is discounted to only $48 at Amazon and Walmart. This 20% discount matches the best price yet for the cute Lego Mario set, but it’s worth noting it sold out quickly last time.
$48 (was $60)
Since releasing late last year, the Piranha Plant Lego set has been on sale for more than a few bucks off exactly twice: in the lead-up to Prime Day and now, a week before Big Deal Days.
Based on one of Mario’s best-known enemies, the 540-piece Piranha Plant building set features posable elements–like a mount that can open and close and a bendable vine and leaves–and sits in a green pipe just like in the games.
Unlike Lego Super Mario playsets that include interactive gameplay elements and simpler pieces, the Lego Piranha Plant is a more complex set intended for display. However, at just $60, it’s also much more affordable than other Lego Nintendo sets that aren’t designed for interactive play, such as Mighty Bowser, the Lego NES, and the Super Mario 64 Question Block.
If you’re interested in this deal, we’d recommend snagging it as soon as possible–perhaps alongside the new Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi pixel art Lego kit, which launched today, October 1.
The Piranha Plant is just one of a handful of Lego Mario sets that carries the 18+ rating, indicating it’s tailored more toward adults. The main reason for this is that the Piranha Plant is designed for display, whereas most Lego Mario builds are playsets that interact with the electronic Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures. That said, the Piranha Plant is the smallest of the Lego Super Mario display sets, so while it is more complex than the starter courses and expansion sets, it’s not nearly as involved as Mighty Bowser, the Lego NES, or Question Block from Super Mario 64.
Here’s a list of all of the Lego Super Mario display sets you can buy now, including the new Super Mario World kit for $130.
Lego also recently released its first set based on The Legend of Zelda. The 2,500-piece Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 building set is an extremely fun build with two different designs: Ocarina of Time and Breath of the Wild.
