According to two notices posted to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website, Continental Dairy Facilities Southwest LLC is recalling 79,200 pounds of Kirkland Signature butter due to the potential for an undeclared allergen. The FDA report states that packages of both salted and unsalted Kirkland Signature Sweet Cream Butter list cream as an ingredient, but may be missing the appropriate “Contains Milk” allergy statement on the packaging.
The recalled products were produced and distributed in Texas. The recall includes 1,300 cases, or 46,800 pounds, of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter, and 900 cases, or 32,400 pounds, of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter.

While the recall was initiated on Oct. 11, the FDA officially classified it as a Class II recall on Nov. 7, meaning it is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
The FDA has not yet released guidance on what to do if you have the recalled butter, however, the typical guidance is that since the products are otherwise safe to eat, if you do not have a milk allergy, this butter is safe to consume. If you prefer not to consume it, you can return it to the original place of purchase for a refund.
